About Us
WHO WE ARE

Touchgrasss was created to be more than an event series. It is a living, breathing community where people rediscover belonging in a world that often feels disconnected.

We are not here to be a transactional club where attendance is measured by ticket sales alone. Instead, Touchgrasss is a space for genuine friendships, laughter, wellness, and moments that remind us of the joy of being human together.

WHAT WE STAND FOR

Belonging

Everyone deserves a space where they feel seen and valued.

Connection

We create opportunities for real friendships, relationships, and networks to grow.

Joy & Wellness

Fun and health go hand in hand; our events spark joy while encouraging well-being.

Service

Giving back to the community is as essential as enjoying it.

Growth & Leadership

We envision members stepping into leadership roles, shaping the future of Touchgrasss together.

WHY IT MATTERS

We live in a digital age where it is easier to scroll than to speak, easier to double tap than to truly connect. After COVID, this became even more apparent. Across the nation, loneliness has been called an epidemic, with millions of adults reporting disconnection and a lack of social support.

Here in Houston, the need is real. Local data shows that more than half of Houstonians sometimes or always feel lonely, and fewer people today say they have close friends or someone to talk to compared to just a few years ago.

This reality hits especially hard for young adults. At ages 23 to 40, life is full of transitions—moving to new cities, starting careers, shifting relationships, and balancing endless responsibilities. Many arrive in Houston searching for belonging but quickly realize that making friends as an adult can feel daunting and intimidating. Social media promises connection but often leaves people feeling left out, unseen, or even more alone.

Touchgrasss was created for exactly this reason: to bring people out from behind their
screens and into real world spaces where connections happen naturally. Through intentional activities such as hikes, picnics, mixers, pickleball, and volunteer service, we create experiences that are fun, active, and designed to spark conversation. Our mission is simple: before you leave a Touchgrasss event, you will have met someone new, laughed, and felt a sense of belonging.

And while our heart right now is with young adults in this 23 to 40 age group, our vision is much bigger. One day, we see Touchgrasss expanding into every age bracket—college
students looking for community, older adults seeking meaningful connection, even families who want to grow together. Because no matter the stage of life, everyone deserves to feel connected, supported, and part of something larger than themselves.

OUR VISION

We envision retreats, group getaways, and citywide experiences that are both enriching and restorative. Our long term dream is a community driven model where leadership rises organically, ensuring that the spirit of Touchgrasss is carried forward by many, not just a few.

Each year, we aim to host around 24 events, blending fun social experiences with meaningful service opportunities. Of these, at least seven are dedicated to giving back through volunteering, community partnerships, or initiatives that uplift others. This balance of joy and service is what sets Touchgrasss apart: it is not only about gathering, but also about impacting.

OUR STORY
From a Simple Hike to a Movement

Touchgrasss started in 2024 after our founder, Ashley Olupona, noticed how hard it had become to make genuine connections as an adult. Post COVID, so many of us were working from home, glued to our screens, and slowly losing basic social skills. Ashley saw how that shift was causing more social anxiety and awkwardness in everyday interactions—not just for her, but for many people.

So, she invited friends on a hike in The Woodlands to reconnect in person. That very first hike brought together 31 people, and the impact was immediate. People talked, bonded, and before the day was even over, they were already asking when the next event would be. That moment became the spark for what is now Touchgrasss—a growing community built on belonging, wellness, and real world connection.
